The roller clamp is used to control the amount of fluid entering the IV set tube. The movement of this roller clamp increases the pressure on the plastic tube of the IV set and narrows it, thus reducing the amount of fluid flowing through. The reverse movement of this roller clamp also increases the amount of fluid passing through and more of it enters the patient’s body. All rollers must be closed before connecting the chamber to the fluid bag so that no air enters the tube. Each drug is prescribed to the patient in a specific injection amount, and one of the most important tasks of nurses is to properly adjust the IV set for such injections.

The IV set chamber is a part of the IV set that is located directly below the IV bag. The task of this part in the IV set is to transfer fluid from the IV to the IV set tube. The drip chamber is the exact point that the nurse must pay attention to in order to adjust the speed of fluid entering the body. By looking at this chamber or chamber, nurses count the number of drops coming out per minute.

The drip chamber should always be half full. If it is more than this amount, we will not be able to count the number of drops and calculate the amount of injection. The drip chamber must be properly connected to the fluid bag to prevent air from entering the circulatory system. Improper connection of this chamber can be very dangerous and cause blockage of blood vessels or cardiac arrest.

Air filter One of the important components of the IV set is the filter. This white piece is located at the end of the drip chamber. This piece is made of polypropylene and its pore size is about 15 to 18 microns. The air filter filters the particles in the fluids and protects patients from any infections caused by them. The filtration rate of latex particles by the filter should not be less than 90 percent.

8. How to use the HD IV set:

• To use the IV set, you must follow the steps in order that we have mentioned below:

• First, tighten the roller clamp tightly.

• Then insert the plastic spike into the IV set.
• Squeeze the drip chamber until it is half full.
• Now open the roller clamp and remove the air bubbles.
• Close the roller clamp again and insert the needle into the patient’s vein.
• You can adjust the flow rate of the liquid with the roller clamp.
• Be sure to close the air inlet.
• Dispose of after use using hygienic methods.
